Biography

Mauricio Trejo is a Mexican/Italian helden tenor, a multilayered artist with over 20 years of experience on stage and in the world of opera. Mauricio was distinguished by the Wagner Society of New York as a promising Wagnerian Tenor. Soon after he performed Siegfried, Parsifal and Siegmund in Lincoln Center with the The Metropolitan Opera Guild, following which, he appeared in Otello in a concert version in New York City.

Mr. Trejo is a Sony Classical Recording Artist that has sung worldwide with opera houses around the continents of Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. Mauricio appeared in the leading roles of I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca, Il Tabarro, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Carmen, Der Rosenkavalier, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, L’Elisir D’Amore, Incoronazione di Popea, La pietra del paragone. He also sang comprimario roles at the beginning of his career in IOS Zurich in Vespri Siciliani, Der Kreidekreis, Der Rosenkavalier, and in Carnegie Hall. He appeared in Adriana L’ecouvrere and La Donna del Lago with the Opera Orchestra of NY.

 

In The Zarzuela genre he has sang: Luisa Fernanda, La Dolorosa, La tabernera, del puerto and El barbero de Sevilla.

He has been hailed as “a tenor with a silver bullet top,” “the possessor of a clear and powerful instrument of great beauty,” “a revelation.” (Luzerner Zeitung). Mauricio has been honored with numerous awards and recognitions such as the Panasonic Scholar of the Year, the Placido Domingo Scholarship under the auspices of SIVAM, and a winner in the International Caruso Competition.

His TV appearances include TV Azteca in Mexico presenting his solo album of Mexican songs and a PBS special which aired nationwide: “The American Tenors”, recorded from the Kodak Theater in the USA, recorded on DVD and on CD in Warsaw and Ireland.

The companies he has performed with include the Opera Orchestra Of New York, Bregenzer Festspiel in Austria, Opernhaus Zurich, Santa Fe Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Lyric Opera of Virginia, New Israeli Opera, The New York Grand Opera, Opera Nacional de Panama, and in Mexico City Palacio de Bellas Artes and Festival Internacional de Morelia, where he had the honor to perform with Mo. Francisco Araiza. Mauricio Trejo has worked with such illustrious maestri such as Alan Gilbert, Eve Queler, Victor DeRenzi, Franz Welser-Möst, Carlo Rizzi, Anton Coppola, Bruno Rigacci, Vincent La Selva, Valery Rivkin, Peter Mark, Fernando Lozano, Alondra de la Parra, and Eduardo Alvarez, to name a few.

Maestro Trejo is a innovative artist that has also crafted a unique way of teaching the voice,

exploring the psycho-emotional state of the singer and the personal context and intertextual motifs of every individual. Mo Trejo walks them through their journey, identifying and highlighting their uniqueness, therefore bringing the singer to fulfill their full potential as an artist. Soprano Monica Conesa is the first to emerge from his guidance and tutelage and at age 26 Miss Conesa had her debut absoluto, at the Arena di Verona as Aida. Presently, Mauricio Trejo studies and implements the technique of Professor Kunsler Francisco Araiza. Other references include Fantastic Artist like, Mignon Dunn, Hors Gunterrthur, Roberto Banuela, Arthur Levy, Franco Iglesias and Mo. Richard Barret.

Mauricio has a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music in NYC. He has a title as a Bachelor in Communication Science from the Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City. He has also practiced martial arts with Professor Jose Samano in the National University Team UNAM. He’s certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Neuroscience for Personal Development. He put his resources for two years during the pandemic to the service of the patients of the Retreat and Restore practice in Philadelphia, following which, Mauricio perfected his innovating course, CB3–a resource that integrates the artist in different compartmentalized ways so they can organize themselves for their success. Mauricio is a founder of the International School of the Voice in conjunction with Elizabeth De Trejo, an proposal and unique educational approach that curates the whole individual as a performer and artist. He is the Artistic Director for Monica Conesa and the American Representative for the Hollaender-Calix Agency.
